Residential Moving

Your first contact with Able Moving Ltd. will be with a moving consultant who will advise you on every aspect of a well-planned move.

The moving consultant will come to your home to explain the many services we offer.  Having done that, the moving consultant will perform a survey of everything in your home that will be moved and he or she will probably point out things along the way that can’t be moved (flammable items such as cans of paint), that may require special attention or that must be prepared for the move by you or a third party (disconnecting a gas dryer or draining a waterbed are two common examples). This survey allows the consultant to provide you with an estimate of moving costs and various pricing moving options you may choose from.

If you order packing, a team of specially-trained packers will be sent to your home on moving loading day or the day before moving, depending on how much packing needs to be done.

On moving day your moving driver/foreman is in charge of the physical moving process.  He is responsible for loading your moving goods at origin, driving the truck and delivering your moving belongings – safe and sound – into your new home.  Generally, he’ll be assisted in the moving loading and moving unloading processes by one to three moving helpers.

Before moving loading begins, the moving driver/foreman will lay down “floor runners” to protect carpets and flooring in entryways, hallways, and other high-traffic areas, as well as padding banisters and doorways to avoid marring walls and woodwork from the move.

If your shipment is being stored at our moving contracted facility (Secure Self Storage) or is being moved long distance, your driver will also prepare a detailed moving Inventory & Condition Report of the items to be moved.  In addition to tagging every individual carton or piece of furniture to be moved with numbered and color-coded labels, he’ll record each item on the moving inventory form.  You should accompany the moving driver/foreman as he prepares the moving inventory, pointing out any special concerns or handling considerations along the way during the move.

The moving driver/foreman will also ask you to sign the moving inventory sheets and to sign a moving bill of lading.  This is the contract by which you authorize Able Moving Ltd. to move your possessions and agree to pay for those moving services.  The moving bill of lading serves to confirm moving schedules, verify delivery moving information, moving addresses, moving dates, moving phone numbers and the moving valuation and protection plan that you’ve selected for the move.

All vulnerable furniture being moved is wrapped in soft, insulated moving pads to protect it from scratches, dents, dirt, etc. during the move.  Tightly loaded tiers – with heavy articles loaded on the bottom – will be constructed inside the moving truck to avoid jarring or shifting while on the road during the move..

The moving driver/foreman is required to collect payment for your move in full upon completion of move.  Acceptable forms of moving payment are bank drafts, money order, Amex, Visa, Master Card or company cheque.   A copy of the moving bill of lading signed by the driver will be your receipt.

When your shipment arrives at the destination, you can help expedite the unloading process by having a room setting floor plan in mind, and by letting the moving driver/foreman know where you want things placed as they’re unloaded and brought into your home.

The moving driver/foreman, moving crew, or the movers also will assemble any items which they disassembled at the moving origin.  Check off moving items from the moving inventory as they’re brought in, noting their condition.  If an item appears to have been damaged or missing during the move, please let us know in writing via mail or email within 48 hours of your move.
